We can, however, take heart in knowing that no one rebounds quicker than our friends in Hollywood. Don't worry; they'll be breaking up with someone new in no time! Let's take a look back at the year in break ups.
1. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony
J.Lo stormed back into the charts and on our screens last year. With her professional career at an all time high we were shocked to hear that her personal life was less than perfect. Lopez, 42, and singer hubby Marc Anthony, 43, announced they were splitting after six years of marriage and two children, twins Emme and Max. Rumours were rife that Anthony was too controlling in the marriage and that was what eventually led to its dissolution. <br></br>
2.Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher
After a six year union that had endured insecurities, emotional strife and cheating scandals Demi Moore, 49, and Ashton Kutcher, 33, called an end to their marriage. Moore was left reeling after news broke that Kutcher allegedly cheated on her with a 22 year old. In a statement Demi announced that, "as a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values that I hold sacred, and it is this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life."
3.Russell Brand and Katy Perry
We were particularly shocked to hear that comedian Russell Brand, 36, and pop singer Katy Perry, 27, were splitting. We had so hoped that these two would stay together but after 14 months of marriage they announced they were to divorce, sighting "irreconcilable differences". Brand gave a statement that said, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
4.Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Maybe the most shocking split of the year was Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. After a highly publicised wedding, in which the couple earned a reported $18 million, Kardashian, 31, filed for divorce from Humphries, 26, after a mere 72 days of marriage. Kardashian has been blasted in the media and several news outlets have surmised that the whole marriage was merely a publicity stunt to promote the Kardashian family's brand and their subsequent television ventures.
From short lived marriages to infidelities, 2011 was filled with celebrity divorces that none of us saw coming...
